Smashbox vs Benefit

Twist my rubber arm… I was browsing for a new concealer and saw that Benefit came out with a new foundation, Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow. Now I have never tried any of their products before, but upon reading reviews I decided to try it! I purchased the ivory one.

Lately I have been using Smashbox High Definition foundation with spf 15. Lately I have found it to be a little heavy which is why I was quick to try a different foundation. Great coverage but too much for me most of the time. Moving on, Benefits new foundation is freaking awesome! Light coverage and not cakey! Very moisturizing and my skin feels like its still able to breathe. And its a perfect ivory shade! Sometimes I find some to be too pink or yellow but this is a perfect shade on my skin. Being so light I have found that I can still get good coverage on my breakout days by layering it. And even with that, its still light and not like its caked on. If i need more coverage I have mixed both brands together and have found that has worked quite well. And I dont wanna waste that new Smashbox foundation thats amost full! Though Clearly, I am sold on this Benefit stuff! I want to try all their products now!

Mascara!!

So normally I use Clinique mascara. Lately Ive found my eyes are just getting so sensitive, as soon as I get home I wash my makeup off!! Not sure if its the mascara or eyeshadow or what. So Ive worn eyeshadow just a few times since may and its gotten a bit better. I have also made sure not to put cream, foundation or anything on my eyelids and that has helped. But no mascara? Can’t do it…. So I grabbed a different brand to try, maybe my eyes wont get irritated and red.. Ive heard great things about Dior mascara so I figured I may as well test it out! And I love it!! And no irritation or watery eyes.. Maybe I just needed a switchup.. Super duper awesome tho! And its black black not like charcoal, which I find a lot of the mascaras are. It is a little bit more pricey than the clinique mascara I normally use, but definitley worth the expense. It goes on heavy, but your lashes are still seperated and don’t look like to thick or unnatural. Check it out! You can purchase this at Sephora as well as Shoppers.

Brides of the past

I absolutely love vintage and antique everything! For me, the 1950′s is a decade I would loved to have lived. Things were so much different than they are now. I find it absolutely intruging. I have always been fascinated with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe. All clearly are quite different however share the fact that they had that sort of mysterious, sad and tragic lives and or deaths. Its funny how tragedy and mystery just adds to the interest. I always thought the day I got married I would be clad in a 50′s style gown and have a themed wedding to match. This is not the case, however I still am drawn to the simplicity and beauty of them.

Naked 2

I have been meaning to do a post on this for a while now. Can I just say I freaking love Urban Decay!!! I love their palettes! So awesome!! So I finally got my hands on the Naked 2 eyeshadow palette.. It has such a great range of shades! I have been using it a lot lately. It has a nice range of neutrals and golden and bronze shadows and then you get soft violet, metallics and a matte black. I could probably use this everyday and never buy any other eye shadow because it is so great!! I love the half baked shimmery gold/bronze eye shadow, this is my second palette that has it so I wont be running out for a while. My other fav is definitley snake bite. Its a darker bronze, that would work for anyone! Especially green or blue eyes, makes them pop! All the colors are great, and for $60 it comes with a makeup brush and mini lip gloss. Quite a value if I do say so myself.

Boar Bristle or Ceramic?

People are always asking me which is better, a ceramic brush or a boar bristle brush? I think its really upto personal preferance. However there are some definite pluses to each. A ceramic round brush will help create more curl and a lot of volume because the blow dryer heats up the ceramic body of the brush allowing it to act like a curling iron. With this also adds shines and creates a smooth finish. And as with any other hot styling tool, make sure you use a heat protectant, especially when you have fine hair! It is so important to keep your hair healthy. A boar bristle brush is great when you need to smooth out frizz or curly hair. Especially on coarse hair it works well. You can really work out the curl or kink and smooth. Sometimes I will use both though to get extra smoothing!

Size of brush is always another question as well… Whether you choose the large or small round brush just remember what they do, and what the end result you are looking for is. When you use a small barrel round brush it will create more volume and curl. A large barrel round brush will smooth hair more and create a softer volume.

Dirty Hair?

So I have notice a lot of people ask about whether or not you can flat iron your hair when its dirty or greasy. I say, why the hell not. Really the flat iron is just going to burn some of that greasyness away anyways. But! You still need to be careful. When I have greasy hair and I am either going to straighten it or curl it. I will take Redken’s Spray Starch 15 and spray my root area first and then go ahead with the flat iron on my root area. I try to get as close as possible without burning myself and flat iron or curl like i would normally, leaving it a little longer in the greasy spots. The hear of the flat iron mixed with the alcohol in the hair spray dries your root area enough that it relieves the greasyness and I can go an extra day. Im sure you could use most hairsprays but be careful its not one that flakes otherwise greasy hair is your least worry. And definitley dont add more serums or anything cuz thay will just add to the greasyness and the hairspray will protect your precious locks just fine. Oh yah and dont hold the hairspray an inch from your head. You dont want a big blob, atleast 4 inches will do. One more thing to try to do is makesure when your hot tools are cooled whipe them off, you dont want major product build up!

While I am on the topic, another trick using something like spray starch is to spray on your greasy roots and use a blowdryer and roundbrush to really work out the grease, I do this more often than the other! I find it works a little better. But not everyone is comfortable using a round brush.. It takes practise! So whichever method, test it out!

Zits be gone!

Goodbye pimples! So a while ago I bought Murad Acne Spot Treatment. Seriously this stuff is amazing! I always breakout when those pesky lady days come aknocking and this stuff totally helps! I wash my face as soon as I get home, so sometimes I will put this on my blemishes right after or other times I wait for bed time. But I spot a little bit on, and then put my normal night moisturizer on over top. I have tried during the day but with foundation over top of it, my skin got crusty.. But man! This dries the pimple out before it even has a chance to get nasty! If you want to try this, or the rest of the line I bought it at Sephora for like 20 bucks!!!

The more you cut, the more you grow?

The more often you trim your ends, the faster your hair grows… FALSE! Your hair may appear to grow “faster” and or “longer” because your ends arent split giving the illusion that it it grows faster because your ends arent thin. Besides hair doesn’t grow outward from the ends, it grows from the follicles. However when you are growing your hair long, it is important to have regular trims to prevent breakage and split ends. Split ends and breakage always makes your hair look thin on the ends andmakes people feel like their hair just doesn’t grow or you know always gets to a certain length and never longer. I also find fresh ends make curls and blowdries last longer. As well as no knotty ends! Personally my hair freshly cut or not gets so knotty on the ends so
I like to use Redken’s Extreme Anti-Snap, its an awesome leave in treatment that provides heat protection, reduces friction from brushing and helps prevent breakage and split ends. So there you have it! Get your hair cut regularly to keep it healthy. And if you want your hair to grow super fast, get extensions!
